Electric underfloor heating gives warmth to kitchens and conservatory floors and are a popular choice for wet rooms and bathrooms as they help to dry them in a quick and efficient manner. It allows for complete control as you can set your heating up in zones and choose which zones to have on at what times and temperatures. Whether you have your whole home covered or just certain rooms, it is the ideal choice when retrofitting to an existing property whereas if you are about to build a new home, a wet system may be better suited.

Our Range

Element Shop provides a range of electric underfloor heating products that work with different floor coverings. This includes tiled, solid wood flooring, laminate flooring, carpets, and vinyl. Easy to install and cost effective, electric heating mats are perfect for renovations.

Electric ufh works by heating mats, cabling, or foil and can work in tandem with another heating system or completely on its own. Depending on your floor finish, insulation, and the materials used below the floor, will determine which one is right for you. No matter which one you end up using, you can be rest assured that the changes in floor height are minimal as mats, cables, and foils are all ultra-thin.

Heating Mats

Heating mats are our most popular underfloor heating system which is mainly down to how easy to install and user-friendly they are. They provide an even heat distribution across the complete floor and allows for an unlimited adjustment of the heating element to suit your needs. Available with 3 different power outputs; 100W which are ideal for timber based floors, 150W which is suitable for concrete based floors and 200W which is used in high output areas such as conservatories and utility areas. All our mats are available as a self-building kit ensuring that you have everything you need to complete your installation and all our products offer great warranties & fantastic customer reviews.

Our harmoni SmartMat features:

  • Self-adhesive mesh
  • Ultra-thin heating cable
  • Twin conductor heating cable
  • Suitable for most wooden surfaces
  • 100% aluminium earth sheath
  • Cable thickness - 3 mm
  • Output - 100W/m²/ 150W/m²/ 200W/m²
  • Operating Voltage - 230/240V
  • Cold tail connection lead - 3 m

Cables

Our underfloor heating cables are available in two varieties, each designed to meet specific installation needs and provide optimal heating performance:

Loose Lay Cables

Loose wire systems are perfect for small, irregularly shaped areas and are ideal for spaces requiring precise installation. These systems are particularly well-suited for bathrooms, twisting hallways, and other uniquely shaped spaces. The flexible cable design allows for an even and consistent spread across the area, ensuring that every part of the space receives adequate heating. Loose lay cables are easy to maneuver and adjust, making them a versatile option for any challenging layout. They are also compatible with various types of flooring, offering both flexibility and efficiency.

In-screed Cables

In-screed cables are an excellent choice for new builds and extensions. These cables are embedded under 50 mm of sand and cement screed, which causes them to take longer to heat up. However, this method provides substantial thermal mass, which means the floor retains heat longer and provides steady, consistent warmth. In-screed cables are perfect for creating invisible heating solutions, especially for areas with thick tiles, stone, or flagstones. Due to their robust nature, they are more commonly used in new constructions rather than retrofitting existing properties. The in-screed method ensures a durable and long-lasting heating system that seamlessly integrates into the building structure.

Heating Foils

Our heating foils are designed for use with laminate floors, carpet, and vinyl floors. These ultra-thin electric floor heating systems are perfect for warming hardwood floors or carpeted areas. Heating foils operate by emitting safe EMF radiation, which complies with all electric and building regulations. This makes them a safe and reliable option for residential and commercial applications. Element Shop’s range of heating foils spans from 1 m² to 24 m², ensuring we can cater to a wide variety of room sizes and configurations. The thin profile of the heating foils allows for easy installation without raising the floor level significantly, making them an ideal choice for renovation projects. Additionally, their efficient design ensures quick heat-up times and even distribution of warmth, enhancing comfort in any space. Whether you're looking to add warmth to a cosy bedroom, a spacious living room, or a commercial office, our heating foils provide an effective and unobtrusive solution.

Electric Thermostats

Element shop supply a wide range of thermostats for underfloor heating. These include touch screen, smart and digital thermostats. They allow the user to programme custom settings, to either raise or lower the temperature of apparatus and many of them have extra features such as pre-built programs, wifi connectivity and much more.

Frequently asked questions

They are suitable for both heating the entire room or floor only, depending on your requirements. Poorly insulated areas and in very cold conditions, may require additional heating if you wish to ensure that the room is well heated. Using insulation and a higher heat output system will reduce the need for this.

At Element Shop we offer a free expert design service to help you ensure that your electric underfloor heating system heats as much or as little as you need.

Generally, we would advise that the property should be airtight before the installation of underfloor heating, but this would also depend on the schedule of your individual project. Please call one of our technical advisors on 01473 559079 if you require any technical advice.

Most free standing furniture is fine to use with heating mats, although its use under fixed items, like fitted wardrobes or units, is not recommended. To avoid any localised hot spots, we do not recommend use beneath thick rugs, insulated dog beds or bean bags.

Installation of underfloor heating is obviously easier within a new build project, but if designed correctly, you can still enjoy the benefits of heating your property using underfloor heat on a retrofit basis.

Yes, underfloor heating is a great way to warm your home. It’s lovely to walk on and distributes heat evenly around each corner of the room, freeing your walls from radiators, so its not surprising that the bathroom is the most popular place to install electric underfloor heating. However, it is common practice to locate the thermostat on an outside wall (typically on the landing or in the hall) with the floor probe running through the wall into the floor where the heating is installed.

Underfloor heating can be used with most types of carpet. A self-levelling compound is required and as long as the underlay is not a good thermal insulator (i.e not felt), heat will easily pass through this layer into the carpet itself. The overall Tog value of carpet and underlay combined should not exceed 2.5 with the underlay itself not exceeding 1 Tog.

Installing Underfloor Heating

Before purchasing and installing your heating, we would suggest that you contact your flooring supplier to decide which finish you are choosing. Once you have decided, check with us the system you have chosen is suitable for the type of flooring you have chosen. Once you have everything you need, we would recommend that you seek a professional to install your heating. However, if you are planning to install them yourself, they are easy and simple to do and the are plenty of tutorials on how to do so on You Tube. Please note that you should use a qualified electrician to connect your underfloor heating to your thermostat and power supply.

A maximum thickness of 18mm is recommended to maximise the benefits from the underwood heating solution.

The correct floor covering should be carefully considered to ensure heat is not prevented from rising into the room by the floor covering. We offer expert advice on floor covering to ensure the best results without restricting the design of your home.
